From progress in development of computer system that learns from its environment, we have proposed high-efficient algorithms, background knowledge extraction techniques for machine learning, applications to Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS), and supports for improving information environment which are also adopted as user interface and data mining techniques. As a unique research topic, we also proposed an approach for extracting user’s feelings and applied it to develop an automatic music composing system based on individual feelings.

In recent years, researches on discovering meaningful information from the huge amount of data are progressing well in order to deal with the flood of information. We are developing an approach to extract knowledge from data with complex structure such as one related to pharmaceutical products. This approach can be used to estimate chemical activities from compound structures and discovered rules or relations can then be used to develop new drugs.
